INTRODUCTION

The aim of this book is to discuss the nature and role of drills and exercise in language teaching with particular reference to second and/or foreign language teaching. Although fairly large quantity of literature in the area of language teaching is available, no book properly emphasizes the need and the nature of the drills and exercise in detail. With a view to bring out this missing link in the area, the present book is brought out wherein adequate number of examples have been provided from two Dravidian languages, namely Tamil and Telugu and an Indo-Aryan language Hindi. It is felt that this book will come in handy and useful to all those who are engaged in language teaching and preparation of language teaching material.
