The
Central Institute of Indian Languages was set up on the 17th July 1969 with a
view to assisting and co-ordinating the development of Indian languages. The Institute
was charged with the responsibility of serving as a nucleus to bring together
all the research and literary output from the various linguistic streams to a
common head and narrowing the gap between the basic research and developmental
research in the field of languages and developmental research in the field of
languages and linguistics of India. This book, "Language Use in Administration
and National Integration" by Dr. B. Mallikarjun embodies Use and National
Integration organized jointly by the Central Institute of Indian Languages and
the Department of Linguistics, Madurai Kamaraj University on the occasion of XV
All India Conference of Linguists held at Madurai from 5th to 7th September, 1986.
It represents the ongoing research of the scholar at the Central Institute of
Indian Languages. I hope and wish that this publication will create interest among
scholars of linguistics and related disciplines in the study of Language Use in
Administration and National Integration in Indian contexts.
